Known as the “father of the California rancho,” Cliff May designed upwards of 18,000 tract houses in the Los Angeles area. However, as the influential architect told an interviewer in 1983, individual single-family homes were where his heart was.

Now on the market in Los Feliz is a sharp modern that was custom-built by May in 1951.

Located on Vermont Avenue just above Cromwell, the single-story residence was constructed in a “V”-shaped plan to maximize connection to the outdoors. Nearly every room opens out through glass doors to a central patio and pool area.

Per the listing, the five-bedroom, 3.5-bath home has been updated with terrazzo floors, sliding Fleetwood doors, fresh landscaping, and a new irrigation system. Along with a heated swimming pool, the backyard features an outdoor kitchen and wood sauna.

Asking price for the quarter-acre property is $2.75 million. Open house is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday.
